In the follow-up to Abbi Glines’s #1 New York Times bestseller Until Friday Night—three teens from a small southern town are stuck in a dramatic love triangle.
Willa can’t erase the bad decisions of her past that led her down the path she’s on now. But she can fight for forgiveness from her family. And she can protect herself by refusing to let anyone else get close to her.
High school quarterback and town golden boy Brady used to be the best of friends with Willa—she even had a crush on him when they were kids. But that’s all changed now: her life choices have made her a different person from the girl he used to know.
Gunner used to be friends with Willa and Brady, too. He too is larger than life and a high school football star—not to mention that his family basically owns the town of Lawton. He loves his life, and doesn’t care about anyone except himself. But Willa is the exception—and he understands the girl she’s become in a way no one else can.
As secrets come to light and hearts are broken, these former childhood friends must face the truth about growing up and falling in love…even if it means losing each other forever.
Six years ago Willa was ripped from her childhood home in Lawton where she lived with her grandmother and brought to Arkansas to live with her mom who wanted nothing to do with her. Brady and Gunner lost their best friend six years ago and have learnt to rely on each other heavily.
I was a huge fan of the first book in the series, Until Friday Night and really enjoyed getting to know all these characters. The first book and the second book seem to take place during the same time, the second picking up where the first one left off in the same year. The book is written in first person, switching off POVs from: Gunner, Brady and Willa.
One thing I love more than anything in these books is all the drama. They are the perfect high school contemporary books, high school is the prime for drama and romance. And that is exactly what this book has.
At first, I didn’t know what to make of Willa. I didn’t really like her that much. But the more I got to know her the more I cared about her and really rooted for her. I was already familiar with Brady and Gunner from the previous book and it was really nice to getting to know them better. I wanted to just wrap Gunner in a hug and be best friends with Brady. And then we have Willa’s Nonna, I love her. She is the best grandma. She cares for Willa and is fierce.
Willa’s story is one of hurt, similar to that of Maggie. Willa is back in Lawton because of one night that went wrong. Her Nonna wants to shield her from making another mistake, which hinders her ability to make friends. Reading Willa’s story while having that intertwine with Gunner’s story, gives us a deeper understanding of both of these characters.
Willa is dealing with grief in a way that Gunner doesn’t understand. Gunner is dealing with lies that are unraveling in ways that Willa doesn’t understand either, but both of them are always there for each other.
I love these characters, watching them develop and just getting to read this series. I can not wait to get to know more the football team and read the rest of the books. There are four books all together and the last one comes out in August. I’m also super excited to read As She fades which came out this month.
If you love high school drama, football, romance, fierce friendship and swoon worthy boys then this is the series for you.
