The Upside of Falling by Alex Light (Book Review)

45891343

It’s been years since seventeen-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone.

Brett Wells has it all. Being captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom. When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be her mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not dating and she can keep up the ruse.

Acting like the perfect couple isn’t easy though, especially when you barely know the other person. But with Becca still picking up the pieces from when her world was blown apart years ago and Brett just barely holding his together now, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined. When the line between real and pretend begins to blur, they are forced to answer the question: is this fake romance the realest thing in either of their lives?  (taken from goodreads.com)

Becca Hart has never had a boyfriend and has a hard time believing in true love, but her mother has been on her case for years now as to why she doesn’t have a boyfriend. Brett Wells is the star football player, idolizes his father and believes in true love. Similarly to Becca, his father has been asking him about when he is going to be bringing home a girlfriend. What better way to get their parents off of their backs than to pretend to date each other? But what happens when they start to spend more time together and things that were fake are now real?

This was SO cute!! I love fake dating and this was just such a great read! I finished this in a few hours.

The writing was fun and easy. I loved the banter and relationship that develops between Becca and Brett. I also loved seeing a male main character believe so strongly in true love, it was so sweet!

While it was a super sweet and cute read, it also touches upon some heavier topics such as divorce, class difference and infidelity. I think there was a perfect balance and I loved getting to see Becca and Brett support each other.

If you’re looking for a fun read I highly recommend this one!
