Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston (Book Review)

First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations.

The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince. Alex is busy enough handling his mother’s bloodthirsty opponents and his own political ambitions without an uptight royal slowing him down. But beneath Henry’s Prince Charming veneer, there’s a soft-hearted eccentric with a dry sense of humor and more than one ghost haunting him.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. And Henry throws everything into question for Alex, an impulsive, charming guy who thought he knew everything: What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you? (taken from goodreads.com)

Henry and Alex have hated each other for as long as they can remember, or at least that’s how Alex views it. But when Alex causes a scene at the royal wedding and almost causes an international relations disaster, he’s forced to pretend that he’s best friends with his number one nemesis, Henry. But when the pair start to get to know each other even better, things start to shift.

This was amazing and so sweet and just so dang good. I need a book about Pez, Harry’s best friend.

This is a book that has been on my shelf for a long time and I knew I needed to read it as soon as I could. I finished this the day before the election results were announced and I loved this book more than anything.

This was sweet, funny, steamy and so well written. Alex is the first son of the United States of America and his mother is the first female president. The relationships between Alex and his family are sweet and real. Alex is your typical young adult male, he loves to cause trouble and drag his friends into it with him. Alex loves to have fun and doesnt let anything stop him.

Henry has had to live a lie for a very long time, as a gay royal he can’t be as open as he wants to be about his life. But when him and Alex are together, he’s able to open up and be his own person. The relationships that Henry has with his family are more strained than the relationships Alex has with his.

This was a fun, well-written, important and sweet read. I highly recommend this one!
