Prince in Disguise by Stephanie Kate Strohm

Someday I want to live in a place where I never hear “You’re Dusty’s sister?” ever again. Life is real enough for Dylan—especially as the ordinary younger sister of Dusty, former Miss Mississippi and the most perfect, popular girl in Tupelo. But when Dusty wins the hand of the handsome Scottish laird-to-be Ronan on the TRC television network’s crown jewel, Prince in Disguise, Dylan has to face a different kind of reality: reality TV.

As the camera crew whisks them off to Scotland to film the lead-up to the wedding, camera-shy Dylan is front and center as Dusty’s maid of honor. The producers are full of surprises—including old family secrets, long-lost relatives, and a hostile future mother-in-law who thinks Dusty and Dylan’s family isn’t good enough for her only son. At least there’s Jamie, an adorably bookish groomsman who might just be the perfect antidote to all Dylan’s stress . . . if she just can keep TRC from turning her into the next reality show sensation.

Dylan is used to living in Dusty’s shadow. She doesn’t understand why people can’t see her for herself, and wants nothing more than to escape this reality tv show nightmare that has become her life. But that doesn’t seem to be what is happening when her whole family goes to Scotland for the reality tv wedding of the year,

I have always enjoyed books about Royals, starting with the Princess Diaries when I was in sixth grade.

This was a funny, sweet, and heartfelt novel. I can relate to Dylan, being this overly tall and awkward person who doesn’t necessarily know what to do with their height. I am 5’10 and sometimes still, at 20 years old, struggle with not tripping over my own feet.

Dylan and Dusty have never been ones to get along. Dylan is sick of living in her older sister’s shadow, and Dusty doesn’t want Dylan ruining her big day.

Jamie is Dylan’s first friend on this trip, and really her only friend. She meets him at the train station and the two of them create their own private world when they are together.

The characters in this book are strong, independent women. Dylan’s mom, who raised her two daughters all alone while having a full time job. Dusty and Dylan who know what they want and they go for it, they do not hold back and I love how real they are.

When Dylan found out who the prince really was, I was expecting some HUGE fall out angry scene that is WAY over the top. But I was really impressed by the way Dylan handled this whole thing.

The relationship between the two sisters really develops and grows, we see Dylan start to understand her sister more and dusty really appreciated Dylan. It was great to see a moment like this.

I loved meeting Jamie’s parents, they are such a stark contrast to Florence, who is Ronan’s mother.

And then we have Ronan, the man Dusty will be marrying. He is a large Scotsman who is filled with emotion. I loved seeing the way he loves Dusty and the desire he has to make Dylan feel like she is part of the family.

This was a fun, feel good, and just plain fantastic novel. I really hope we get to see more of Dylan and Jamie, because I love the way the two of them play off of each other.
