Can’t buy me love…
Maddie’s not impulsive. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment–
She wins!
In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun…until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.
Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?
As you can probably tell from the other books I have reviewed, I love fun and light contemporary novels. And Kasie West is the queen of contemporary novels.
Like all of Kasie West’s books, this one was filled with fuzzy feelings and lot of cute moments. And I love how this one had more diversity than her other ones, Seth is an Asian boy who works with Maddie at the zoo. The two of them have amazing chemistry and are the cutest friends who become more than that.
The characters were fun and relatable, Maddie and her friends are all seniors in high school. Maddie comes from a family that struggles to make ends meet and she buys a lottery ticket for herself for her birthday. When Maddie wins the lottery, her life turns upside down and people start using her for her money. Including some people she never thought would, which puts Maddie in a hard spot.
This book is very similar to Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith. And I liked Windfall better. Both books are cute, thoughtful and heartbreaking at different points. Lucky in Love felt a lot more rushed than Windfall did.
I had very high hopes for this book. I did enjoy reading it but I wished it was a little longer so it wouldn’t have felt so rushed.
I’m giving this book three out of five stars. I wish it was better. Because Kasie West is the queen and I guess even queens make mistakes too.
