How The Light Gets In by Katy Upperman (The FFBC Blog Tour Book Review and Giveaway)

BOOK COVER

Since her sister’s tragic death, seventeen-year-old Callie Ryan has basically given up. Her grades have plummeted, she’s quit her swim team, and she barely recognizes the people her parents have become.

When she returns to her aunt’s run-down coastal Victorian one year after Chloe’s death, Callie resigns herself to a summer of guilt and home renovations. She doesn’t expect to be charmed by the tiny coastal town or by Tucker Morgan, a local boy brimming with sunshine.

But even as her days begin to brighten, Callie’s nights are crowded with chilling dreams, unanswered questions, and eerie phenomenon that have her convinced she’s being haunted. Will Callie be able to figure out what her sister is trying to communicate before it’s too late?

Callie’s whole life has been turned on Its head when her sister dies. There’s nothing that motivates her to continue her regular life, until she goes to spend the summer with her aunt and meets Tucker. Slowly, she starts to recognize her old self.

(Before I jump in I want to thank Emma  from Miss Print blog for providing me with an ARC through her ARC adoption program and The FFBC for having me on the tour!)

I loved this book more than anything. Katy Upperman writes some of my most favorite books and this one was just amazing. I loved this book so much, I had to stop reading it every fifty pages because it was hitting me so hard and the feelings I was feeling were just a lot. This book hit me very hard. I tend to read a lot of books about grief and I saw myself in Callie and her dad, a lot.

Callie’s Aunt Lucy was by far one of my favorite characters. The way she cares about Callie and doesn’t push her too hard to have her open up, she lets her grow and start to think about what’s going on.

Chloe. Chloe is Callie’s younger sister who died and whose death Callie feels responsible for. Even though she’s passed away, she’s still trying to communicate with Callie in whatever way she can find.

And then we have Tucker Morgan. Tucker Morgan is the yard boy and a ray of sunshine. He has his own past that he needs to figure out, but there’s something about Callie that intrigues Tucker from the minute they meet.

This story reminded me of INVISIBLE GHOSTS by Robyn Schneider (which is one of my other favorite books in the world.) And I loved this so much. The characters are fun, real, and growing. There is so much character growth and this was SO amazing!!
