I know this is something I haven’t done before but here is a post dedicated solely to the book birthday of Our Year of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon.
Today, January 15th, is the book birthday of Our Year of Maybe. I was lucky enough to receive one of the first ARCs of this book, I won it in a giveaway and I will cherish it forever.
If you do not know what this book is about its about these two best friends Sophie and Peter. Peter has a kidney disease and is need of a new kidney, Sophie has two working kidney’s. Sophie has been in love with Peter for a very long time, she hopes that giving him her kidney will help change their relationship.
This book meant the world to me. As a Jewish teen, its very hard to find novels about Jewish teens that aren’t about the holocaust. And this is by far one of the best books about Jewish teens being teens whose Judaism is very important to them on all different levels.
The development of the relationships in this book were amazing. Sophie develops as a whole person, she becomes a glitter emoji and becomes her own person. She learns to define herself without Peter, which is something I have had to do. She sees that her world doesn’t start and end with Peter. Peter learns to live for the first time, he learns to become himself and sometimes that means drifting from those who were once the center of your world.
I loved this more than anything and you all need this book.
