Five Fab Friendships in Books

To me, my best friends are the number one things that keep me grounded. They make me who I am and without them I wouldn’t be who I am today and I know that for a fact. They mean the world to me and I am always grateful that I have them by my side at all times. To them I will always be grateful and I guess I’m missing them a little more than usual because this is the first summer in ten years I’m not spending with them. Let me say, putting this list together was much harder than I thought it would be.

  1. Reagan and Victoria from “Just Visiting” by Dahlia Adler

Reagan and Victoria balance each other out in a way that I had never seen before in a Young Adult novel. Their relationship is real and meaningful and relatable. They experience their firsts together, fight and have fun.

2. Naomi and Ely from “Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List” by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn

Naomi and Ely’s relationship developed in this book from one somewhat childish to one of adults. Ely puts up with Naomi while Naomi is in love with her gay best friend, slowly the two grow apart only to realize how much they need each other. Like some friendships, sometimes you need to fall apart so you can come together and realize how much you need each other.

3. Lulu Saad and her squad from “Not The Girls You’re Looking For” by Aminah Mae Safi

These girls are fierce, loyal and messy. They remind me of real world friendships. The way things are messy and sometimes we get angry about things and can’t explain what is going. We keep secrets from our friends even though we know they are the ones who will help us figure out what is going on with us. I really recommend this one.

4. Andie and Bri and Toby and Palmer from “The Unexpected Everything” by Morgan Matson

Even though the friendship between all four of these girls doesn’t stay as strong as it starts, it shows real friendship and life. We do things we shouldn’t and we hurt the ones we love, we try to fix it but then its too late. We have an ache for these friends but we dont know how to make it better.

5. Emma, Cassidy, Megan and Jess from “The Mother-Daughter Book Club” by Heather Vogel Frederick

These four friends start off rocky but slowly bond together to form a strong bond that no one can break. I love Emma’s loyalty and Cassidy’s sense of adventure.
