10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston (Book Review)

Sophie wants one thing for Christmas-a little freedom from her overprotective parents. So when they decide to spend Christmas in South Louisiana with her very pregnant older sister, Sophie is looking forward to some much needed private (read: make-out) time with her long-term boyfriend, Griffin. Except it turns out that Griffin wants a little freedom from their relationship. Cue devastation.

Heartbroken, Sophie flees to her grandparents’ house, where the rest of her boisterous extended family is gathered for the holiday. That’s when her nonna devises a (not so) brilliant plan: Over the next ten days, Sophie will be set up on ten different blind dates by different family members. Like her sweet cousin Sara, who sets her up with a hot guy at an exclusive underground party. Or her crazy aunt Patrice, who signs Sophie up for a lead role in a living nativity. With a boy who barely reaches her shoulder. And a screaming baby.

When Griffin turns up unexpectedly and begs for a second chance, Sophie feels more confused than ever. Because maybe, just maybe, she’s started to have feelings for someone else . . . Someone who is definitely not available.

This is going to be the worst Christmas break ever… or is it?

Sophie thinks Griffin is the one she’s going to be spending all her time with during her vacation, only to find out he would much rather she be anywhere but with him during break. She packs up her stuff and goes to her grandparents, where she spends winter break with her family. When her family puts together a plan to get her back to the “old Sophie” will it work or will she end up just as sad and alone as she was when she showed up at her grandparents?

I loved this book so much. I love how family oriented this whole story was. I love how close the whole family is and how Sophie is best friends with her cousins.

Her family is fun, loving and dynamic. We get to know the majority of her cousins, aunts and uncles through the different dates they set up.

The dates are funny, cute and cringe worthy. Each one brining her closer and closer to finishing these ten blind dates.

For me, while the dates were lots of fun, my favorite part of the book is when we get to see more of the relationship between Sophie and her cousins, Olivia and Charlie. And of course, Wes, Charlie’s best friend who is also one of Sophie’s best friend. Their friendship reminds me of the friendship I have with my cousins, we are very close and are actually friends with each other.

I love holiday stories and this was amazing. I loved getting to know more about Italian traditions and foods.

I really really enjoyed the relationship between Sophie and her parents, and Sophie and her older sister, Margot. They are all close, there isn’t any complaining about her parents and her parents actually care about their daughter. Margot is a great big sister, and its different getting to see a relationship of a younger sister and an older married sister.

I really really loved this story and I 10000% recommend this book!
